Time and Time Functions in Parametrized Non-Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

چکیده

The “evolving constants” method of defining the quantum dynamics of time-reparametrization-invariant theories is investigated for a particular implementation of parametrized non-relativistic quantum mechanics (PNRQM). The wide range of time functions that are available to define evolving constants raises issues of interpretation, consistency, and the degree to which the resulting quantum theory coincides with, or generalizes, the usual non-relativistic theory. The allowed time functions must be restricted for the predictions of PNRQM to coincide with those of usual quantum theory. They must be restricted to have a notion of quantum evolution in a time-parameter connected to spacetime geometry. They must be restricted to prevent the theory from making inconsistent predictions for the probabilities of histories. Suitable restrictions can be introduced in PNRQM but these seem unlikely to apply to a reparametrization invariant theory like general relativity. Typeset using REVTEX e-mail: [email protected]

On relativistic quantum mechanics in the rest- frame instant form of dynamics

A review is given of a new relativistic classical mechanics for N-particle systems compatible with relativistic bound states. It is formulated in global non-inertial frames in Minkowski space-time by means of parametrized Minkowski theories and then restricted to the intrinsic inertial rest frame of the isolated system. There is a complete control on the relativistic collective variables (Newto...

hep-th/9512146 CANONICAL GAUGES IN THE PATH INTEGRAL FOR PARAMETRIZED SYSTEMS

It is well known that –differing from ordinary gauge systems– canonical gauges are not admissible in the path integral for parametrized systems. This is the case for the relativistic particle and gravitation. However, a time dependent canonical transformation can turn a parametrized system into an ordinary gauge system. It is shown how to build a canonical transformation such that the fixation ...

Motivated by relativity, several authors have suggested introducing, in classical and quantum physics, a separate time coordinate for every particle in order to avoid the use of simultaneity surfaces, e.g. [1–8]. For example, multi-time wave functions have been used in the foundations of quantum mechanics for defining relativistic collapse [9] or de Broglie–Bohm [10] theories. In quantum physic...
